Company description

The Association of Clinical Trials Organizations was established at the end of November 2007 as a non-commercial organization of companies engaged in clinical trials in Russia. The situation involving the export of biological samples, which occurred in May 2007, was the stimulus that led companies to create ACTO. At that time there was a lack of a uniting power to appeal on behalf of business.

The primary objectives of ACTO are to further develop Russia as clinical research market; to ensure a proper and effective balance between the interests of parties involved in clinical trials including the patients, the medical community, and the governmental agencies; to harmonize local legislative basis for the clinical trials with the respective worldwide standards; and to promote an ethical business model.

ACTO’s members conduct clinical trials in accordance with international standard of Good Clinical Practice (ICH GCP). According to the Statutes of the Association, ACTO’s members should follow the principles of integrity and respect for other market participants, and refrain from unfair competition.

Products and services

ACTO represents in Russia the world’s leading pharmaceutical companies and contract research organizations. To date ACTO’s members are 26 companies: Almedis, Amgen, Bayer Schering Pharma, Boehringer Ingelheim, Bristol-Myers Squibb, ClinStar, Covance, Cromos Pharma, Eli Lilly, i3, ICON, Janssen Pharmaceutica, Kendle, MB Quest, Medpace, Novartis, Novo Nordisk, Parexel, Pfizer, PharmaNet, PPD, PRA International, PSI, Quintiles, Servier, WCT. Now ACTO consolidates about 40% of clinical trials in Russia.
