The history of Bayer Co. (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd and its legacy companies dates back to 1967. Bayer Co. (Malaysia Sdn Bhd Houses the life sciences activities of Bayer CropScience and Bayer Healthcare. The third pillar of our activities is the Bayer Agency Business which handles the Bayer Material Science and among others the Lanxess Business in Malaysia. There are over 200 people under the company’s employ and it operates form its base in Petaling Jaya, Selangor, where also the company’s corporate functions on IT, Finance, Accounting and Corporate HR & Communication are located. The Business Group Bayer Healthcare (formerly Bayer Schering Plough) was formed when Bayer acquired Schering AG in 2006, a speciality pharmaceutical company based in Germany, in the largest acquisition in company history. Products and services

Bayer Healthcare is focused on four strategic business areas: Diagnostic Imaging (contrast media for X-ray, computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging), General Medicine (anti-infectives, hypertension and coronary heart diseases, diabetes and men’s healthcare), Speciality Medicine (oncology and specialised therapeuticals) and Women’s healthcare (hormonal contraception, menopause managmeent and gynaecological therapies).

Aside from Bayer Healthcare’s commercial activities the company is engaged in education and awareness programmes. One of these initiatives is the ‘Yes, I Can’ campaign addressing the issue of unplanned pregnancies by empowering women to make informed decisions about their sexual health and contraceptive options. It seeks to empower women of every age to make informed choices about their sexual health and contraceptive options. The campaign also addresses and tackles the issues of unplanned pregnancies and abandoned babies that has been a rising concern and the company facilitates conversations between young women and their healthcare providers about the role of contraception in reducing unplanned pregnancy.

The components of the Yes, I Can campaign include: Ambassadors with representation from Deborah Henry, Miss Malaysia World 2007, popular TV personality Julie Woon and online personality Nicole Tan (http://nicolekiss.blogspot.com); a campus roadshow: The Yes, I Can campaign roadshow will bring the campaign to young women through campus visits to key universities and colleges in the Klang Valley. A specially designed campaign website with links to Twitter and Facebook will provide a conducive online platform for young women to discuss topics related to family, love and relationship. Lending their expert opinions to the Yes, I Can campaign are healthcare professionals who will provide advice on the various topics online.There is also the The Yes, I Can challenge, which calls on Malaysian adults aged 18 and above to support and be advocates for Yes, I Can by making an impactful difference on the issue at hand.

Bayer Healthcare also engages in widening patient access through programmes such as the NexPAP Patient Assistance Programme: This program is designed to assist Malaysian patients who have been diagnosed with Hepatocellular Carcinoma (HCC) (a form of liver cancer), and have been prescribed by their doctors to use sorafenib (generic name). NexPAP aims to provide drug assistance to help patients in continuing with drug treatment for as long as medically required. This program is part of Bayer Healthcare Malaysia initiatives to provide drug assistance to Malaysian patients.
Bayer Healthcare is working in partnership with Malaysian Liver Foundation (MLF) to run NexPAP.
As part of NexPAP. patients will purchase the first two months of sorafenib, after which Bayer Schering Pharma will donate free sorafenib for up to the next 12 calendar months to patients, as long as medically required as determined by the prescribing physician.
