Bayer HealthCare is today ranked as one of the leading companies in the Chinese pharmaceutical industry, the number one multinational by sales in 2008 (IMS). Both Bayer and Schering (merged in 2007) have been present in China for more than 100 years and have over 2.000 employees throughout China. Bayer is launching all of its global blockbuster products in China. In addition Bayer is actively developing at least 20 new products in China to ensure that all new product innovations from Bayer will be made available to Chinese people as soon as possible.
Bayer HealthCare, which started investing in China nearly 20 years ago, now operates four manufacturing facilities in the country and in 2008 completed a $39 million expansion of a plant in Beijing making aspirin, diabetes drugs and other medicines. That same year, Bayer completed the acquisition of the over-the-counter cough and cold portfolio of China’s Topsun Science and Technology Qidong Gaitianli Pharmaceutical, marking its first local acquisition in the country.
