Boehringer Ingelheim founded its first subsidiary outside Germany in Vienna in 1948. Today for the company Austria is of great importance being the location of the Regional Centre Vienna that controls for 33 nations in animal health, marketing and sales and prescription medicines. Vienna also host s BI´s global Cancer Research Center and help fund basic research at the Research Institute of Molecular Pathology (IMP), and have links with the Vienna Biocenter (VBC) and the Institute of Molecular Biotechnology (IMBA)
BI has invested 700 million EUR in the new state of the art biopharmaceutical production plant, for internal and external manufacturing, that will be located in the heart of Vienna and will be completed in 2021. This is the largest single investment by the company and solidifies BI as the world´s leading biopharmaceutical manufacturer.
