BPJS Kesehatan was created in 2014 as the successor of the former Social Security Institution of Indonesia (ASKES). The main purpose of BPJS Kesehatan is the successful and sustainable implementation of the Universal Healthcare coverage program of Indonesia (JKN-KIS), which is expected to cover all national citizens by 2019; today it already cover 178,2 million people or embraces 70 percent of the national population.
