Merck Chile established itself in 1939 and today is the second most important market for the company’s operations in Latin America in terms of market share. The Chilean subsidiary distributes the entire portfolio of the company that is divided into 5 different divisions: General Medicine, Cardio-Metabolic, Oncology, Biotechnology and Consumer Healthcare. Merck Chile has several distribution agreements with other global pharmaceutical laboratories, such as Bristol Myers Squibb and AstraZeneca. The company also conducts clinical trials in Chile for several therapeutic areas, including oncology, multiple sclerosis, fertility and rheumatoid arthritis.
The company employs close to 300 people in Chile and had sales of 61 million euros in 2009.
