The Ministry of Health, also known as Departemen Kesehatan, is the government body tasked with implementing health policy, lead by the Minister of Health who answers directly to the President. The primary functions of the ministry involve implementing government health related directives, coordinating task implementation and services under the department’s purview, implementing research and education in the framework of supporting health policy, and regulating healthcare providers and the healthcare industry.These overarching mandates are broken down into more specific authorities such as formulation of national health policy, setting minimum service standards, national health planning, accreditation requirements for educational institutions and certifications, settling disputes between provinces, setting birth rate control policy, administering the social health maintenance system, creating nutrition standardization and guidelines, surveillance of infectious diseases, and administering the supply of emergency stocks of essential drugs.
