Company description

As a full campus of Monash University we provide a distinctive international experience, with excellence in teaching and research. We engage with Malaysian and regional societies to improve the human condition. The Sunway campus is a dynamic community of scholars comprising staff and students, supported by collegial processes and comprehensive first-class infrastructure, and aspiring to intellectual achievement of the highest order.

Monash University was invited by the Malaysian government to open a campus in 1998. Through a long-standing partnership with the Sunway Group, the first foreign university campus in Malaysia was created at Bandar Sunway in Petaling Jaya. Classes commenced in July 1998.

The current campus was purpose-built in 2007 at a cost of some RM200m. At present there are some 4,500 students and 500 staff, with growth projected to lead to over 6,000 students and 600 staff. About one quarter of the student body is international. The campus continues to develop steadily, and now enjoys excellent facilities for world-class education and research. All academic staff members are expected to engage in scholarly research.

Products and services

Students at Sunway campus are students of the University, and may participate in the intercampus mobility options available to all Monash students. Student experiences are enhanced through clubs and societies. Award courses from seven Monash faculties are provided through six schools, and range from bachelor to doctoral level.

Campus organisation includes open and transparent collegial processes with elected staff and student representation on committees. These committees permit formal dialogue with bodies formed by students, schools, faculties and the University centre. Sunway campus complies with all Monash University academic policies. Campus-specific procedures and business rules are developed within the University’s framework. Planning for the campus is integrated with University strategic planning.
