The first Solvay plant was built in 1912 in Rosignano, near Livorno, and the group now has 13 production plantsin Italy, and is active in the chemical, pharmaceutical and plastics fields, with annual sales up to 1034 million and investments of around 107 million euro in 2007. It now employs about 2,800 people.Solvay is now looking at different therapeutic areas in order to comfort its growth and prevent drawbacks from products falling into the public domain; orphan diseases being one of the most important.
