China Biotech Private Financing Q2 2026: A Venture-Led Quarter Download

China Biotech Private Financing Q2 2026: A Venture-Led Quarter

2026

China’s private biotech financing market showed no signs of cooling in the second quarter of 2026. Excluding public listings, deployment held firm at a broad, venture-driven pace; evidence that the country’s private company pipeline continues to mature well ahead of any eventual listing wave.

As this exclusive new Selesta* report shows, China biotech private financing totalled approximately USD 2,225 million across roughly 120 transactions in Q2 2026. Venture rounds from Seed through Pre-IPO accounted for the bulk of this activity at ~USD 1,678 million, with Series A leading the field at USD 487 million across 26 rounds, anchored by MoleculeMind’s USD 100 million AI-antibody discovery round, the quarter’s single largest venture deal.

Radiopharmaceuticals emerged as the quarter’s deepest thematic cluster, attracting over USD 350 million across stages, led by Nurem Medical’s USD 139 million Series E and Full-Life Technologies’ USD 110 million Series D; the latter backed by SK Biopharma and Vivo. High radiochemistry and supply-chain barriers continue to favour early movers in this space, while AI-enabled discovery, cell therapy, and nucleic acid platforms each drew sustained private capital of their own.

Strategic investment remained the highest-volume category, with roughly 50 transactions, though the segment stayed largely domestic; a continuation of capital recycling led by government-guided funds and Chinese pharma rather than large-scale multinational deal-making. Direct MNC participation was nonetheless present, with Eisai and Corvus Pharmaceuticals among the backers of Chinese platforms this quarter.

Meanwhile, M&A activity totalled USD 226 million, dominated by Sanroad Biological’s USD 193.8 million acquisition by Leadman; a signal that consolidation of established, revenue-generating platforms is proceeding alongside, rather than instead of, early-stage risk capital. Together, these dynamics point to a Chinese biotech financing market broadening in depth even as it holds its lead in volume.
