Novartis has a consolidated presence in Italy, where it is among the market leaders in all of the Group’s business areas.
Novartis plays a leading role in all the major therapeutic areas of the Italian pharmaceutical market: cardio-metabolic, immunology and dermatology, neuroscience, ophthalmology, oncology and hematology, respiratory.
At the end of 2015, the company could count on 2,316 employees, including about 230 involved in Research & Development and more than 700 dedicated to production activities. Its headquarters are in Origgio, in the province of Varese.
In 2015, total net sales amounted to 1,629 million euro (+ 2.7%, on a comparable basis, versus the previous year). The company is one of the most committed to innovation: in 2015, 66,6 million euro were invested in Research & Development.
Novartis is also leader in the clinical development of innovative drugs in Italy: in 2015, the company supported more than 250 clinical trials, involving over 15,000 patients at about 1,100 centers.
Novartis is also a highly important production company in Italy, where it relies on two large manufacturing sites whose activities are directed to the international markets. In 2015, export generated from the Group’s manufacturing sites reached 167,9 million euro.
