Boehringer Ingelheim is a group of companies dedicated to researching, developing, manufacturing and marketing novel products of high therapeutic value for human and veterinary medicine. It is one of the world’s 20 leading pharmaceutical companies. In 2009 it had 142 affiliated companies in 47 countries employing 41,534 employees and with net sales of EUR 12,721 million.
The corporate vision of the company is given by one single phrase: ‘Value through Innovation’. The company was founded in Ingelheim am Rhein (Germany) in 1885, where the corporate headquarters is still located.
The business is divided into the following business areas: Human Pharmaceuticals, Prescription Medicines, Consumer Health Care, Industrial Customer, Biopharmaceuticals, Pharmaceuticals Production, Pharma Chemicals and Animal Health, the largest one being Prescription medicines, where 21% of the net sales is spent in R&D.
Boehringer Ingelheim Chile acts as a distributor of the company’s products in the local market. Supply for the Chilean market is provided by the company’s manufacturing plants in Brazil, Argentina, Colombia and Mexico. Nevertheless, Boehringer Ingelheim conducts several clinical trials in Chile.
